Cell Structure
Sponges lack true cell tissue, having only one thin cell layer, the pinoderm. Enclosed within the pinoderm contains the mesohyl. The mesohyl is a gelatinous like substance, tasked with housing the sponge’s“skeletal system” (see Project and Spicule Structures) and several important body cell (see cell types).
